At Grove Medical, we understand that managing your doctor’s fees and other healthcare costs can sometimes feel overwhelming. That’s why we bulk bill children under 14 and Pension Card Holders over 65, so visiting your GP is stress-free and affordable.
For Healthcare Card Holders and pensioners under 65, a small $40 gap fee applies, enabling us to deliver quality care. While weekends, public holidays, and extended hours consultations are privately billed, our team constantly works to find options that fit your needs.
No. With bulk billing, the doctor bills Medicare directly and accepts the Medicare benefit as full payment for the service, so you won’t have to pay anything out of pocket for your GP visit. Although Grove Medical is a private medical billing practice, we offer bulk billing for children under 14 and pension card holders aged 65 and above.
While Grove Medical is a private billing practice, we do offer reduced rates for Pension Card and Healthcare Card holders. However, the standard GP consultation fee will be charged privately for those with a Commonwealth Senior Card.

The bulk billing GP rates in Cockburn, Australia, vary depending on the practice and patient eligibility, and have fluctuated over time. Some of the main reasons for this include changes in the costs of running a medical practice and updates to the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) over time. At our practice, we offer targeted bulk billing services to eligible patients. For more information, refer to our fee structure above or contact our team.
While the cost of a GP visit may vary between clinics in Cockburn, at Grove Medical, the standard fees are $156 for a new patient, a long appointment, or those on a mental health care plan and $90 for a standard appointment.
No, it does not cover all your GP costs. As mentioned previously, we offer targeted bulk billing services to eligible patients. In such cases, Medicare covers the full amount, and you won’t have to pay anything. However, for consultations with doctors who do not bulk bill at our clinic, you’ll need to pay the full fee upfront and claim a partial rebate based on the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS), with the remainder being your out-of-pocket cost. We also do not bulk bill on weekends, and all appointments, including immunisations and DVA patients, are privately billed.
A Health Care Card is a concession card issued by the Australian Government through Services Australia. It provides eligible individuals with access to a range of benefits, including lower-cost prescription medicines under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), as well as reduced costs for medical services, bulk-billed GP visits, and other household or transport-related expenses.
Eligibility is generally based on income and residency requirements. The card is often issued to individuals receiving certain government payments, such as JobSeeker Payment or Youth Allowance, or to those with a low income who meet the criteria for a Low Income Health Care Card.
Yes, self-funded retirees are entitled to a Health Care Card, but the type of Health Care Card they receive depends on their eligibility for the Age Pension. Those eligible for the Age Pension receive the Pensioner Concession Card. On the other hand, those who are not eligible may qualify for the Commonwealth Seniors Health Card (CSHC) if their income falls below the set limits.
