ADHD Assessments

Dr Sean Stevens’ ADHD assessment list is FULL as part of the requirements of his specialist training program. Please contact reception for the latest information on availability.

This service requires a new patient appointment with one of our GPs to obtain a referral for the ADHD assessment, and is available only to existing Grove Medical patients from Cockburn or Victoria Park.

ADHD can affect focus, organisation, relationships, and everyday wellbeing at any age. At Grove Medical, our Cockburn practice offers GP-led ADHD care, giving patients access to assessment, diagnosis, and ongoing management directly through their GP, without the long wait times traditionally associated with specialist-only pathways. Our GPs work within Western Australia’s Stimulant Regulatory Scheme to provide safe, evidence-based, and individualised ADHD care close to home.

How This Is Different from GP Shared Care with a Psychiatrist

This service is not the same as our standard GP shared-care arrangement, where a psychiatrist or paediatrician makes the formal diagnosis and your GP manages ongoing continuation prescriptions and reviews between specialist visits.

With our GP-led pathway, the assessment, diagnosis, and initial treatment planning are carried out by Dr Sean Stevens, under his specialist training and mentorship arrangement a psychiatrist referral is not required to begin the process. If you already have a diagnosis from a psychiatrist or paediatrician and are looking for a GP to manage ongoing shared care, this is a separate pathway a please let reception know so we can book you in appropriately with any of our GPs.

What’s Involved

  • 2 x 60 minute appointments with Dr Sean Stevens
  • A questionnaire sent to you, to be completed before your first appointment.
  • A brief 15-minute nurse check beforehand (blood pressure, weight, height, and an ECG if clinically indicated).

Fees

  • The total fee for the full assessments is $1,200 (two appointments at $600 each)
  • Your appointments are eligible for a Medicare rebate of $202.65
  • A 50% deposit is required to be settled at the time of booking, which goes towards your total appointment cost. This is non-refundable.

Who This Service Suits

Suitable for:

  • New ADHD assessments
  • Patients with an existing diagnosis who’d like to move away from a psychiatrist but still need assessment/management
  • Existing Grove Medical patients only – Cockburn or Vic Park; not open to new patients seeking ADHD assessment alone.
  • Patients currently under a psychiatrist – you can still be assessed, and we’ll send your psychiatrist a clinical letter afterwards

Not suitable for:

  • Children under 10
  • Active substance abuse
  • Bipolar disorder

Yes – you’ll need a referral from one of your Grove Medical doctors to Dr Sean before booking. You do need to be an existing Grove Medical patient at Cockburn or Vic Park.

Dr Sean Stevens will discuss treatment options with you, including medication where appropriate, and manage your ongoing care directly.

Yes. You can be assessed even if you’re currently under a psychiatrist’s care, and we’ll keep them informed with a clinical letter after your appointment.

That’s okay — reception can talk you through other options, including a referral to a psychiatrist or paediatrician.
